About Gina Godoy

My Background

I have been making music all of my life. Piano lessons have been a constant since I was 4 years old, along with many other music making experiences: singing in various choirs, taking private cello lessons, playing in my high school and college orchestras, playing in a string quartet, and performing in musicals and recitals, just to name a few. All of these experiences led me to teaching. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music with an emphasis in piano from Allegheny College in Meadville, PA in 2008. I continued on to pursue a Masters degree in Music Education from SUNY at Buffalo and graduated in 2010. It was during my graduate career that I found my passion for teaching young children. For a few years I taught in the public school system in Poquoson, VA, gaining valuable classroom experience that would eventually lead me to open my own business. In 2012, my husband and I moved to the Portland, Oregon metro area where I taught preschool music classes in daycares, private piano lessons in my home, and Music Together® parent/child music classes. In 2016, my husband and I moved back to the east coast to East Tennessee and eventually settled in the Briarcliff neighborhood of Oak Ridge in 2018. After being a stay at home mom to two beautiful children for six years, I opened my piano studio in September of 2022. I can't wait to welcome you to my studio in Oak Ridge!

Sharing my Passion

I firmly believe that it is our birthright to make music, whether it is through playing an instrument, singing, and/or moving our bodies. It helps us to:

  • express our emotions
  • make connections in the brain and body
  • make connections with others in our community
  • find reprieve in our busy lives
  • enrich our lives in a way that only the arts can.
